6.2/6.5 Main Cap Stud Girdle Kit By Rick Pruit & TDP Staff
Some 6.2/6.5 engine blocks have developed cracks that originate from the outer main bearing bolt holes. The Stud Girdle Kit from Diesel Services Group was designed to help solve this problem. By joining the center three main-webs together, dynamic forces are better contained and the studs eliminate the spreading force put on the block while torquing the main cap fasteners.
Key Features:
The most difficult task was the pan removal on the new engine. Once the pan bolts has been removed, I used a putty knife to separate the pan from the block. Scrape the remnants of the sealant from the pan/block surfaces, then clean with solvent before sealing the pan with silicone gasket compound during re-assembly.
The Girdle Kit fit right into place. I had no trouble following the instructions nor with the kit installation. The replacement engine purchased for my 1994 GMC was produced in the 2000 model-year. This was the last full model-year of engines that have experienced block cracking. After researching and observing the wear patterns on the center main bearing of the original 1994 engine, I felt it was important to install the stud girdle kit. TDP
