![]() Anatomy of the Hot Rod Book Review
We've run several polls through the years here in The Diesel Page asking GM diesel owners whether or not they considered themselves to be an "enthusiast". Poll responders overwhelmingly indicated that they are. This enthusiasm for their truck also reflects an enthusiasm for most things automotive, including Hot Rods and customs. While Doug Mitchel's 11" x 11" new book, "Anatomy of the Hot Rod", doesn't contain any diesel equipped subjects, it does feature more than 400 superb photos of nearly 40 different Hot Rods and custom pickups, roadsters, coupes, convertibles and sedans. We can all appreciate fine work, style and performance. This is a book for the enthusiast.
This custom 1957 Chevy pickup is a great example of a classic truck that is gaining in popularity.
This 1948 Chevy pickup is reminiscent of the 6.5L Turbo Diesel powered 1951 GMC we featured a few years ago here in TDP that was built by member Greg Mead. A custom truck similar to this '48 model was sold through Barrett-Jackson's auto auction last year, bringing nearly $200,000. If nothing else, this indicates a growing appreciation for old iron.
No matter where your interest lies, with respect to hot rods and customs, Doug Mitchel's new book should satisfy. This 1932 Ford 3-window coupe is representative of the timeless and classic hot rod. A 1936 Ford coupe I once owned in my early automotive experience didn't look anywhere near this fabulous, but it's the dream that matters most.
Rat Rods also have their following, and entry level costs and fabrication are usually lower than the full-on hot rods and customs. These provide enthusiasts with an entry level opportunity to venture into the hobby.
The pages shown here are just a small taste of what's available in this large coffee table style book. Superb subjects, excellent photography and insightful dialog provide a fascinating look at the world of Hot Rods. TDP Anatomy of the Hot Rod is available from all major bookstores, online book retailers, directly from Krause Publications at 800-258-0929 or from the Krause Publications web site.
