2009 Free Christmas Drawing

We appreciate everyone's support here at The Diesel Page - and we like Christmas. Through the years, we've offered a number of free Christmas drawings. For 2009, we're offering a handful of 6.2/6.5/Duramax related products as free Christmas gifts to current subscribing and supporting members of The Diesel Page. Some of these products were purchased for a product review or special project and some were sent to us by the listed vendors for use in our discussions. Instead of allowing these great products to collect dust, we're looking for a new home where they can be put to work in a supporting member's truck or Suburban.

First up is an Automotive CAN OBD2 Code Scanner Model - T50e (as shown above) that was sent to us by Kennedy Diesel for use in a related product review. John Kennedy suggested we keep the code scanner and include it in our free Christmas drawings instead of sending it back. The T50e supports all OBD2 protocols (1996 or newer), including the recent Controller Area Network (CAN) protocol, allowing users to stay current with the latest development in automotive diagnostic scanning. While not necessary for reading/erasing codes or otherwise interacting with your vehicle's diagnostic port, the T50e has provisions for an internal 9-volt battery, which is useful for analyzing data off the vehicle or when downloading any future updates from the Quicklynks' web site (using the included serial cable). Aside from the code reader, diagnostic port cable and serial cable, the T50e also includes a nice padded case and a mini-CD installation disk. Overall, the T50e was easy to use and quickly displayed any existing trouble codes. Thanks to Kennedy Diesel for allowing us to include the T50e in our free drawing prizes.

Some 6.2/6.5 engine blocks have developed cracks that originate from the outer main bearing bolt holes. The Stud Girdle Kit from Diesel Services Group was designed to help mitigate this problem. By joining the center three main webs, dynamic forces are spread more evenly, and the ARP studs help to eliminate the spreading forces exerted on the main webs while torquing the cap fasteners.

Kits are available of both the large outer main cap bolt engines produced between 1982 and early 1996 and the newer small outer main cap bolt engines produced from late 1996 to current. The kit being offered in this free prize drawing is for the earlier large outer bolt engines. Thanks to Diesel Services Group for allowing us to include the 1982-96 6.2/6.5 stud girdle kit with the list of free drawing prizes for Christmas 2009.

The VanAaken performance modules are among my favorite power mods for the LB7 Duramax, but unfortunately they are no longer being produced. This one was purchased by The Diesel Page a few years ago, but it is no longer needed. I continue to run another VanAaken module on my 2001 LB7, and have for more than 6 years. This is one of the few LB7 Duramax power products that actually reduced exhaust temperature while towing with added power, as was demonstrated during an exhaust system evaluation last year. The VanAaken power selection is made via an in-cab 3-position rotary switch, offering an off, towing and performance positions.

The mechanical 1992-95 Turbo-Master wastegate controller shown here replaces the original factory 1992-93 non-adjustible controller as well as the 1994-95 vacuum actuator. Produced by Heath Diesel and sold through U.S. Diesel Parts, the TM has become a popular choice when replacing the 1992-95 factory actuator. This one is new/unused and is being offered here as part of the free drawing prizes. Thanks to U.S. Diesel parts for supplying the TM.

As mentioned earlier, you must be a current Option A or Option B supporting member to enter the drawing. Simply send an e-mail to: turbo@TheDieselPage.com listing your first & second choice (among the 4 items shown here). If you prefer, you can send your entry via regular mail. The drawing will occur Sunday, December 20th, and the free prizes will be shipped the following day. Please select just two of the above items (OBD2 Scanner, Block Girdle, VanAaken Module, or Turbo-Master). If your name is chosen first, you'll receive your first choice. If your name was chosen, but your first choice was already won by another member, you'll receive your second choice. The odds of winning an item depends on how many members enter. Judging from past free prize drawings, those entering have excellent odds. Please choose only those items that you want and will use.

Our thanks go to everyone for your support through the years, and to the vendors who help to make The Diesel Page possible. We wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.    TDP
